July 4th celebration sweets

The Fourth of July 2020 was on Saturday, July 4, 2020.

The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, has been an official holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution.

On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted for independence and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, drafted by President, Thomas Jefferson.

Celebrations on the 4th of July began soon after in 1777 when Philadelphia hosted a parade, cannon salute and fireworks. The Bristol Fourth of July Parade was first held in 1785 and is still being held each year today.

From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades, concerts, family gatherings and of course, offers the opportunity to celebrate with sweets.

With the popularity of American candy and soda in the UK more and more of us are celebrating 4th July with our stateside friends.  The barbeque is on the grill, the picnic is set out, the streamers and flags are up – and it’s time to celebrate all-American style. Hopefully, in the balmy heat of the summer sun, the freedom of weeks off school and the glow of long days spent playing outdoors, nothing is more satisfying or more seasonal than celebrating the 4th of July in style — complete with an outdoor party, summer picnic foods and patriotic sweets!

You’re taking all that time to prepare your picnic, party decorations and snacks, it wouldn’t be complete without any sugary sweets already made and ready to serve — red, white and blue included of course?

Our website offers you the opportunity to shop by colour. We also have loads of American sweets at Sweets 4 Me, including many red, white and blue sweets that will make your celebrations go with a bang.
